This “Retarded Swing” is the Easiest in Golf

My swing looks retarded? No, I’m not offended. I know my swing is different. Moe Norman knew it too.

Before you make too many judgments, you might want to know that my swing happens to be the easiest swing in golf. No, it’s not theory. I’m not making it up. As a matter of fact, I have proven that every movement of my Single Plane swing is easier than the hundreds of variations of the Conventional Swing you see on the PGA Tour.

Don’t give me credit, give it to Moe Norman, the greatest ball-striker to ever live. PGA tour players would stop to watch him hit balls. They didn’t think his swing looked weird. They saw biomechanical perfection.

Look at this pic of Faldo, Couples, Crenshaw and Nick Price watching Moe’s “retarded” swing.

Let’s be realistic. Golfers aren’t getting better. Horst might be one of them. I am assuming by his comments his swing looks great. But is it effective? Do you care what you “look like” if you hit the ball, long hard and straight- right down the middle? Heck, if I have to look retarded (which obviously do) no problem. I will be retarded all day long – dead straight, right down the middle.

Seriously, why aren’t golfers getting better? It’s because of the Non-retarded conventional setup. I call it the one mistake. Yes, having the arms below the shoulders in TWO planes is causing the problem. Since almost all golfers are taught this way, we seem to accept it as correct. Doing something that others are doing and blindly following seems retarded. If you are having success ignore me. If golf is hard and you are like most golfers – struggling, why wouldn’t you consider being different?

Here is the problem. Yours probably trying to copy Ricky Fowler. I love Ricky. I think he’s great but his swing is too hard for the average golfer. By the way, the average PGA Tour player is 28 years old with healthy bodies. (Yet, many of them are experiencing back problems).

They hit hundreds of balls every day. They have finely tuned athletes and can get away with sub-optimal mechanics because they practice intensely.

Ricky’s swing (above) is interesting if you really look at it. He starts on two planes (low hands) and at impact lifts to a higher plane (red line). Look at his body lifting up and his head going down so that he can “jump” into impact. Great stuff if you are 28, flexible and a finely-tuned athlete. Can you image your grandfather getting into this position? Call 911.

I might be retarded but wouldn’t it just be easier to start, at address, on the red line? Now check out my retarded swing. I start and impact on the same plane. I swing with the club on ONE plane, not TWO. My swing has eliminated an unnecessary movement. Now, who’s retarded.

I’m not saying that Ricky is retarded. He is obviously a great player but I do believe he makes the golf swing more difficult than it needs to be – as most players do. I don’t, however, think you should copy Ricky Fowler’s golf swing or any TWO plane swing for that matter.

Let me conclude by saying this. When I saw Moe Norman’s swing for the first time, I thought it looked different but it made me curious. How does the greatest ball-striker have such a different swing? Maybe his “different” swing was actually a better way.

Hmmmm…all I can say is good luck. Obviously single plane isn’t everyone’s “cup of tea.” I know for a fact that I hit more fairways, which means I hit more greens, which means I have more opportunities for birdies. How retarded is that?

Combine that with a good short game system and the putting masterclass, and by the end of the month, I’m probably going to be 0. My swing may look a little different, but it sure does work. Like the old saying goes “it ain’t how, it’s how many.”

Like sheep we follow the conventional “wisdom” down the garden path to frustration and sore backs.

I am working on this swing. But the term retarded is fading from use as it should. People with mental disabilities have always been called retards, and the term “you are retarded” is disrespectful towards people who deserve respect.
